The House of Scorpion by Nancy Farmer

House of Scorpion

This Young Adult Science fiction book is about a boy who is a clone of a drug lord (EL Patron) in the future. Our protagonist, Matt is treated very poorly. This story raises issues of human rights by illegal immigration, illegal drug trafficking, and political corruption. It is no surprise that this book won awards like the U.S. National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, named a Newbery Honor Book, and a Michael L. Printz Honor award. I was so intrigued by the characters, I did not want to the book to end. To find out more about what happens to Matt and El Patron, pick up this book from your local library.
